Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday tapped Deputy Shin Bet Chief Nadav Argaman as the next director of the general security service. Argaman will replace Yoram Cohen in May 2016.
Argaman is a resident of the Israeli city of Rosh Ha’ayin. His experience in Israel’s security services is extensive: he was drafted in an elite IDF unit in 1978, and joined the defense establishment in 1983, serving in various positions.
He served as head of Shin Bet operations in 2003-2007, and spent the following four years in the United States as Shin Bet representative.
Argaman also served in the Atomic Energy Commission in 2014-2015, returning to the Shin Bet late last year to take on the position of deputy director, replacing Roni Alsheich who was named Israel Police Commissioner.
