The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemns the circulation of an anti-Semitic collage against former Foreign Minister Solomon Passy. Such actions are completely unacceptable, and the perpetrators must be held accountable as provided by law, the Ministry said in a statement on its website on Tuesday.
The ministry recalls that anti-Semitism contradicts both the values of Bulgaria and the historical traditions of Bulgarian society, which is proud of having saved Bulgarian Jews from deportation during the Second World War.
The Organization of Jews in Bulgaria Shalom submitted an alert with the Sofia Regional Prosecution Office on July 14 against Vazrazhdane after the collage was posted in the social network Telegram. Later that day, Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov said that the collage in question was not posted in his party's official Telegram channel.
The prosecution service ordered a joint investigation by the State Agency for National Security and the General Directorate for Combating Organised Crime.
Later on Tuesday, the Embassies of EU Member Countries in Sofia supported the statement of Bulgaria Foreign Ministry condemning the distribution of the anti-Semitic cartoon against Mr. Solomon Passy and reiterated their condemnation against all hate speech.
