Two Israelis beaten up in Berlin by man of Palestinian origin
29 June 2010
Two Israeli tourists have been attacked by a man of Palestinian descent in a Berlin nightclub, newspapers report. Police are investigating if the motive for the attack was anti-Semitic. The newspaper ‘Tagesspiegel’ reported that the two men, aged 22 and 18, were attacked at a nightclub located in the city's Kreuzberg district. One of the club's employees reportedly approached the 22-year old tourist and asked him if he was Israeli. When the Israeli said he was, the employee, who identified himself as a Palestinian, began to hit and choke him. When the tourist's 18-year old friend attempted to defend him he was also attacked, and a beer glass was thrown at him.
Gadi Lahat, Israel’s consul-general in Berlin, said the two were on a tour of Berlin's bars and that they had visited a number of establishments. He told ‘Ynet’ the fight had broken out at a bar called Matrix, which was their final stop for the evening. "The two Israelis, one of them a high-school graduate and the other recently discharged from the army, met two young ladies and were speaking to them before they were approached by the employee," he said. Lahat added that police had not yet confirmed the brawl was a product of anti-Semitism. He said the club's bouncer had stopped the fight by spraying the two with tear gas.
The probe was handed over to a special police unit because of the possibility that anti-Semitism played a role in the assault.

Everyone, Israelis and all Arab-Muslims, whould read Nonie Darwish's book, NOW THEY CALL ME INFIDEL. I consider myself to be pretty well informed in general, but this book struck home with me. I do not think the Palestinian "crisis" is a crisis, and I do not believe it to be the centre of the Middle East conflict. I think anti-Israel and antiSemitism are the core of Muslim preaching/teaching, and Palestine offers a very comfortable reference for extreme jihadists. On another note, I DO very much believe we need a Palestinian State, separate from Israel, although there will be little or no magic derived with respect to a real peace co-existence. Extremists will continue to behave to their hateful (and ignorant) pov, and the Islamists will continue to try to subject the world to their NON-peaceful and exclusionary religious philosophy. Israel used poor judgment with respect to the flotilla heading to Gaza, and played right into the hands of those who hate Israel most. I do not expect Israelis to sit on their hands when anticipating attacks or the furtherance of an enemy's ability to attack Israel, but a more intelligent approach to this flotilla incident would have been wise and welcomed by everyone. Last, but not least, Americans are friends of democracy, and Israel is the only democratic nation in the Middle East. The rest are "ruled" in one way or another, but none is a real democracy. We advocate democracy, which is why we are perceived to champion Israel.
