The Central Council of Jews in Germany has announced that its president Paul Spiegel would not make any public appearances until June. The 69-year-old had suffered a heart attack in early February followed by an infection and a pneumonia. He would remain under medical supervision to avoid further complications and take some rest, the statement said. In 2000, Spiegel had succeeded Ignatz Bubis as leader of Germany's Jewish community.
