More than 2,000 people have demonstrated outside Iran's embassy in Paris to protest against remarks by the country's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who last week had said that Israel should be "wiped off the map". The demonstrators carried signs reading “Israel will conquer” and “Iran is a murderer.” The rally, organized by French Jewish groups, was attended by representatives of the government and various political parties. Earlier this week, CRIF, the umbrella organization of secular Jewish groups in France, sent a letter asking to meet with the Iranian ambassador, but has not received a response. President Ahmadinejad’s comments that Israel should be wiped off the map have been condemned internationally.
