In this month's edition of the Policy Talk series of the Israel Council on Foreign Relations (ICFR) entitled 'The challenge of work-life-balance and diplomacy,” the leading British barrister Cherie Blair and the UK's ambassador to Israel, Matthew Gould, shared their personal insights in a candid and compelling manner. Blair, who is the wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, described her early life and upbringing in modest circumstances as a backdrop to her successful law career and her charitable work. She punctuated her remarks with entertaining anecdotes that kept the audience riveted.
Ambassador Gould, who hosted the event at his residence, provided the participants with a number of helpful recommendations. A spirited discussion ensued, with many of the Israeli and European participants (including Celia Gould, the ambassador's wife) sharing their own experiences.
The forum is supported by the European Union Delegation to Israel, the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a number of European embassies. this event was co-sponsored by the Israel office of the German Heinrich Böll Foundation. The ICFR operates under the auspices of the World Jewish Congress.
