Terror suspects arrested in New York reportedly planned to bomb synagogue

12 May 2011

Two men who allegedly intended to mount a terrorist attack in New York City, likely on a synagogue, have been arrested. The pair were arrested late Wednesday after a sting operation, the ‘New York Times’ reported, citing a person briefed on the matter as saying that the men had discussed attacking a synagogue, though they did not have a specific target in mind. According to the report, the men had attempted to buy hand grenades and guns.

The alleged terrorists were not identified, but an official told the Times that they were "home grown." One is believed to be of Moroccan descent and the other of North African descent, the newspaper wrote. They will be charged under New York State’s terrorism law when they are arraigned on Thursday afternoon.
