Israelis unfazed by diplomatic spat with US, poll finds
19 March 2010
An opinion poll commissioned by the newspaper ‘Haaretz’ and conducted this week has found that more than a quarter of Israelis believe that US President Barack Obama is anti-Semitic. However, a large majority of Israelis believe Obama’s treatment of the Jewish state is friendly and fair. According to ‘Haaretz’, it appears that the Israeli public was relatively unfazed by the diplomatic crisis between the two countries.
About half of those surveyed said Israel must keep building in Jerusalem, even at the expense of a rift with the United States, while 41 percent said Israel must accept international demands to stop building in east Jerusalem. A large majority has said Prime Minister Netanyahu did not deliberately cause a crisis to avoid having to enter into talks with the Palestinians.
