Tamar Shchory
Vice-President, World Jewish Congress


Tamar Shchory, student leader.
Born and raised in Jerusalem, Israel.

Activism & Professional Experience:

Tamar has started her Activism at the age of 15 as an active member of BBYO, Bnei Brith Youth Organization. Tamar was elected as the President of the Southern District of the youth movement in Israel and ever since was active in different social fields and in many leadership positions.

Ben Gurion University:
During her University years Tamar was an active member of Hillel in Ben Gurion University where she held the position of a JCSC (Jewish Campus Service Corps), a coordinator for students' involvement and activism.
As a first degree student, Tamar was very active in promoting Social Justice while establishing two student groups; the first, for promoting women rights within the Israeli Society and the other, for promoting social justice for workers and weakened groups of society.
Tamar was a prominent student activist in her faculty and was elected as the Chairperson of the Ben Gurion Student association, the representative student body that's responsible for the welfare and for keeping the rights of the the17, 000 university students. Tamar has always emphasized the importance of contribution to society and as the Chair she was leading many processes to strengthen the connection between the students, the city of Beer Sheva and the Negev.

WUJS: Tamar has recently finished a two year term as the Chairperson of the World Union of Jewish Students (WUJS); a global, dynamic, grassroots umbrella organization for connecting & representing Jewish Students worldwide. During her term, Tamar has managed to prevent the organization from closing, after inheriting WUJS with deep debts that threatened its existence. Tamar has raised the needed funds both to cover all the past debts and to continue with the important activities for Jewish students.
As the Chairperson of WUJS, Tamar has represented the Jewish students in a variety of forums-
A Presidium member in "Hava’ad Hapoel" of the World Zionist Organization (WZO)
A member in the Directorate of the Jewish National Fund (JNF) and its Education Committee
A member of the Jewish Agency's Education Committee as part of its Board of Governors
A member in the Board of Governors of the World Jewish Congress (WJC)

Other Leadership activities:

A Presidium member of the National Union of Israeli Students
A member of the establishing committee of the Social-Economic College in Beer Sheva
A Member of the Excellence Program of the Jewish People Policy Planning Institute
An Israeli Representative in Student Delegations to Ukraine, Poland, the U.S etc
A representative member in the student council of the Political science department, Ben Gurion University.
An Active member of "Marot"; WUJS Leadership program
A graduate of the Jewish Social Leadership program of Hillel.
A Coordinator in "Gesher", an NGO for bridging gaps between various sectors in the Israeli Society.
A Youth Coordinator in a community center in Jerusalem.

Education:

Tamar is a student for MA in Law, in Bar Ilan University.
Tamar has BA in Political science and Israel studies from Ben Gurion University of the Negev and she's a graduate from the Hebrew University High School in Jerusalem.

Army Service:

Tamar is serving as an Education Officer in the IDF reserved duty. During Tamar's Military service she has served as the Education coordinator of the "Golani" 13th combat unit and as the Education officer of the whole area of Hebron. Tamar has also served as a Crew Commander in the Education Officers Training Course.
