About the World Jewish Congress


Cobi Benatoff

Born in Israel, Benatoff has been residing in Milan since 1947, and after schooling there, studied at University of California in Los Angeles, from where he graduated with a degree in Economics.

He has been active in community affairs, as president of the Jewish community of Milan, member of the Board of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities, and President of the European Council of Jewish Communities, where his chief interests were education, social services, Jewish heritage and culture. He is a member of the board of the WJRO and of the Claims Conference.

As President of the European Jewish Congress from 2003 to 2005, he built relationships with small Jewish communities and with communities in eastern Europe. He continues to serve as the Chairman of the WJC Policy Council.

For more than a decade, Cobi Benatoff’s name has been synonymous with Jewish leadership in Europe.
