Plenary Assembly
The Plenary Assembly is the highest forum of the World Jewish
Congress. It meets every four years and is comprised of 500 representatives from Jewish Communities from around the world
and selected international Jewish organizations. The Plenary Assembly
elects the officers and sets the policies of the WJC. The most
recent WJC Plenary Assembly was held in Jerusalem in January
2009.
Governing Board
The World Jewish Congress Governing Board consists of 100 representatives of Jewish communities and international
Jewish organizations. The Governing Board meets at least once a
year and acts on behalf of the Plenary Assembly between meetings.
The last meeting of the
WJC Governing Board was held in Ashkelon,
in September 2008.
Executive
The Executive of the World Jewish Congress conducts the
affairs of the WJC in accordance with the decisions of the Governing
Board. The body consists of the WJC President, Vice Presidents,
the Governing Board Chairman, the Treasurer, Chairmen of the Regional
affiliates, the Secretary General, the Deputy Secretary General and the General Counsel. The Executive meets at least twice a year.
Steering Committee
The World Jewish Congress Steering Committee is comprised leaders of Jewish communities and institutions
from around the world and considers matters that include policy,
governance, finance and administration. The committee consists of the
WJC President, the Chairman of the Governing Board, the Treasurer and the Presidents of WJC’s
five regions. The body meets between meetings of the Executive.
Budget and Finance Commission
The World Jewish Congress Budget and Finance Commission oversees
the budget and finances of the WJC. The Commission consists
of five regional representatives, all elected by WJC’s
regional affiliates, and a chairman. Each member’s qualifications
must include business, finance, accounting or law.
Policy Council
The Policy Council of the World Jewish Congress is an advisory
body, composed of eminent personalities from various sectors
of society, and from around the globe. The Policy Council discusses
issues of importance to the Jewish communities around the world,
and makes substantive policy recommendations to the WJC leadership.
