Following are some of the recent activities of the WJC American Section:

 

Ongoing preparations and outreach for hosting 2007 International Council of Jewish Parliamentarians in Washington, DC

2006

July 26, Washington – Hosted farewell luncheon for U.S., Israeli and French diplomats who have played key roles in coordinating international fight against anti-Semitism

July 17, Washington – American Section sponsored community-wide memorial service for Alan Senitt

June 21-23, Geneva – American Section cooperation with American Red Cross and others to facilitate overdue admission of Magen David Adom into the International Movement

June 15, Baltimore – American Section sponsored and organized panel on “European Jewry Today” at annual meeting of American Jewish Press Association

June 11, New York – International Jewish leadership consultation on Tikkun Olam

June 4-6, Santo Domingo – American Section representative attends OAS General Assembly, joined by Latin American Jewish Congress

May 26, New York – Aliza Olmert visit to Head Start facility, in cooperation with the Office of Governor Pataki

May 3, Washington – Civil Society Roundtable, Organization of American States

May 1, New York – Inaugural meeting of American Section Governing Board under revised bylaws

March 26-28, New York – Visit by delegation of French Bishops Conference

March 23, New York – Initial meetings of new Nominating and Membership Committees

March 2, Washington – Foundation for Ethnic Understanding Congressional Breakfast, presenting Inter-Ethnic Congressional Awards

March 1, New York – Ambassador John Bolton addresses NYU’s Bronfman Center on Iran’s threat

February 23-24, Vienna – American Section reports on “Legislative Responses to Anti-Semitism” distributed to the 400 participants at Winter Meeting of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly

February 5-9, Jerusalem – Seven-member American Section delegation to WJC Governing Board, including two student leaders; Rabbi Marc Schneier presentation of Russell Simmons and Jay-Z PSAs against anti-Semitism

January 8-10, Jerusalem – U.S. delegation to International Council of Jewish Parliamentarians (5 Members of Congress and 3 leading state legislators, plus key staff)

2005

December 15, New York – American Section business meeting to revise bylaws and adopt other enhancements
