Limmud FSU

The website www.LimmudFSU.org is currently available in English and Russian and soon also in Hebrew.

As the third largest global Jewish population, Russian-speaking Jews have struggled to maintain their Jewish identity, traditions, and values. Limmud FSU (the initials stand for ‘Former Soviet Union’ strives to develop leadership and to empower young people in the region with the knowledge and confidence they need to express themselves as Jews and to participate in their local Jewish communities.

You're invited to join a big Limmud FSU gather from Friday, October 27 to Monday, October 30, 2008, when approximately 1,000 young Russian-speaking Jewish leaders, activists, and volunteers from Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, Central Asia and the Far East, will gather in Yalta, Crimea, for the Second Annual Limmud FSU Conference.

These young people are coming together to renew and strengthen Jewish life and to enable Russian-speaking Jews around the globe to reconnect with their Jewish heritage and traditions through Limmud FSU's unique, dynamic, pluralistic model of informal Jewish learning.

The World Jewish Congress is a supporter and sponsor of Limmud FSU, and WJC leaders have participated in recent events. WJC Governing Board chairman Matthew Bronfman serves as honorary chair of Limmud FSU. Michael Schneider, the WJC’s secretary general, who also serves on the Limmud FSU's International Steering Committee attended the Moscow Limmud FSU conference in 2007.
